Purpose

By John A. Andrews

What do you want said of you when your physical journey has ended? Wouldn’t you rather wear out than rust out? Is it your intent to achieve something that will make the future point to you with even more pride than the present is pointing to those who have gone before you? What is your purpose? Is it for a cause greater than yourself? Do you have a purpose that will take you through the cocoon to become a beautiful butterfly?

So many people resist change for fear of the unknown. But if they were to stretch outside of their comfort zone, they would be amazed at the beautiful rainbow waiting to pour down showers of blessing upon them. Most people don’t want to stretch, and they go to their graves with music still inside of them.

Purpose driven individuals are winners. They have something they have to accomplish, and will struggle against all odds to make it a reality. Most of all they understand that change is necessary if they are going to be all they can be. They have to win!

Losers let things happen, but winners make things happen. Winners are never satisfied with who they are, and therefore, they’re constantly working on changing and enhancing their self-image. They have a vision of the person they want to become, and they develop a well-defined, emotional picture of them-selves as if they have already achieved that goal. Advance-winning pumps through their veins.

They breathe the championship.

They feel drenched from the entire bucket of Gatorade poured over their head.

They experience the thrill of Disneyland before playing the Super Bowl.

They caress the Oscar.

They hear the crowd’s approval.

They feel the gold medal around their neck.

They see a church with one million members worshipping in spirit and truth.

They stand tall in the winner’s circle.

They feel their new self-image in advance.

They dress rehearse receiving the Nobel Prize.

Winners let nothing stand in the way of victory. You can smell their tenacity like expensive cologne because they have a feeling of their own worth. They think, “I can, I will, and I shall not be denied.”

The power of your purpose depends wholly on the vigor and determination behind it. To paraphrase Dr. Bremer: Your resolute will and firm determination to succeed will carry you up-stream, no matter how strong the current or how tough the obstacles in your way. But if your will is fragile and your determination wavering, you will float downstream with the multitudes of others who, like a dead fish, have not enough zest or willpower to force their way upstream.
